Time taking

Initially, the time taking functions had been developed together with the SPORTident sprinter set for the special requirements of the Park World Tour.

The time taking functions are required if you need a timing clock which is independent of the chip system. In orienteering this is the rule for Elite World Cup and World Championships. Such external time taking systems consist of a timing device which works together with a light bar or timing button to record the times.
The SportSoftware supports the SPORTIdent sprinter set and the Emit time taking devices and provides a time taking by the PC clock. The time taking functions are included in OE12 Pro and OS2010 Pro.

Time taking at the start
The start time will be taken by the time taking system. The time trigger device can be any device which is supported by the time taking system, f.ex. a light bar, a start bar (which is used f.e. in downhill skiing), or a simple button by which you can trigger the time manually. The runner punches the SI station, which is connected to the PC, shortly before the start. Then he runs through the start bar which delivers his exact real start time. All information is sent automatically to the PC where the start time is assigned to the runner identified by the SI punch.
If the time taking system supports that, you can assign the start number within that system first. Afterwards the full information (time and start number) will be sent to the SportSoftware.

Time taking at the finish
The finish time will be taken by the time taking system.
When the runner crosses the finish line, the time taking system sends the finish time to the PC. Then the runner punches at the SI station which is connected to the PC, and he will get the last finish time assigned.
If the time taking system supports that, you can assign the start number within that system first. Afterwards the full information (time and start number) will be sent to the SportSoftware.
To speed up this assignment (for the speaker!), it is possible to preassign the next finish time to the currently incoming runner manually.

Of course, there is no guarantee for an error-free processing all the time. Think about “double strokes”, missing times, etc. The SportSoftware provides an easy-to-use user interface to allow manual corrections without interrupting the automatic processing.

Speaker support
You will have the most benefit of the time taking functions if you will use them together with the speaker functions. This allows to perform live reports using different possibilities of online displays, f.ex. at big result boards in the finish area or for TV broadcasting.
